The mission of the Acadia Family Resource Center is to strengthen families and to improve the quality of life through education, support, and community awareness. The goals are: to provide education to individuals, families, community, and to strengthen, support, and preserve the family; to increase public awareness of the needs of families in the community and, the resources available to the community; to encourage volunteerism throughout the community, in order to meet the needs of children and families; and to foster a sense of community among service providers in the parish in order to ensure a full use of available services. Other services include: used school uniforms with a referral from a school or local agency, referrals for utility bills, food stamps and clothing. Blood pressure checks for the elderly once a month and “Angel on a Tree” Christmas program through schools and Wal-Mart for needy children. Additionally, The Resource Center had a Lending Library with books, videos and pamphlets on health, parenting and disciplining issues; offers parenting classes and clothing.
